Virginia Launches NSSF’s Project HomeSafe

Saying that “Knowing how to use a gun is only half the equation. Knowing how to store a gun is the other half … the most important half,” Virginia’s Lt. Governor John H. Hager announced recently the launch of NSSF’s Project HomeSafe in his state. Sixty thousand firearm education safety kits and gun locking devices will be distributed free of charge by the State Police. Hager, a hunter and shooting sports enthusiast, got the idea for the campaign during the National Convention of State Lieutenant Governors last year when the group unanimously endorsed the Project HomeSafe program. Thus far, more than 700 cities and counties and several states are participating, and 16 Lt. Governors have pledged to initiate Project HomeSafe in their states. Tens of thousands of locks and safety kits have been distributed with an estimated three million to be given away by the end of this year.
