Approves $4,989,000 for Project Homesafesm The U.S. Dept. of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs has given final approval for a $4,989,000 grant to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) for expansion of the Foundation’s award-winning firearm safety campaign, Project HomeSafe. Launched in late 1999, Project HomeSafe has been recognized by the Conference of Lieutenant Governors as the most comprehensive firearm safety education program in the country. “All NSSF members should be proud of the extraordinary success of this NSSF effort and the speed and effectiveness with which Doug Painter and his staff have built an idea into a significant national safety effort,” said Bob Delfay, president and CEO, NSSF. Project HomeSafe recently launched a national "safety" tour with four 16-foot mobile classrooms transporting the safety message to 44 states through 2002. The National Conference of Lieutenant Governors (NCLG) recently gave its unanimous endorsement to the Project HomeSafe campaign, and this past summer the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) bestowed its “Associations Advance America Award of Excellence” to the NSSF for the Project HomeSafe effort. The award recognizes associations and industry partners that advance American society with innovative programs in such areas as education, social innovation, citizenship and community service. NSSF was one of just 21 organizations chosen this year out of nearly 180 considered from around the country.
