Delfay Announces Retirement from NSSF at End of 2002

Bob Delfay, chief executive of the National Shooting Sports Foundation for more than 15 years, has announced his intention to retire at the end of 2002. “We accept Bob’s announcement with extreme reluctance”, commented Don Gobel, Chairman of the NSSF Board of Governors. “Bob has been a source of leadership, creativity and dedication at NSSF for as long as most of us can remember. This early notice of his planned retirement is typical of his dedication to what is best for the NSSF and our industry.” “The NSSF Board is naming a search committee to conduct an aggressive effort to recruit an executive with the unique skills and experience required of the NSSF position. The committee’s goal is to name Delfay’s replacement by mid-year so that individual will have the opportunity to spend six months working with Delfay to ensure an orderly transition,” Gobel said. Both Delfay and NSSF’s executive director, Doug Painter, will serve on the Search Committee. “I believe most people in our industry know how proud I have been to serve as the president of NSSF and how much satisfaction I have taken in the growth of NSSF and its programs, but there comes a time to move on,” Delfay announced at a special Board of Governors planning meeting in Newtown. “I hope that this early announcement will allow the Board of Governors to conduct an unhurried search to select the right executive to lead NSSF into the future.” “During Bob’s tenure as chief executive he has played a key role in the extraordinary success of the SHOT SHOW, created and directed numerous successful shooting sports promotions, increased NSSF membership from 200 to more than 1,900 and directed the creation and growth of the Hunting and Shooting Sports Heritage Fund,” Gobel noted. Delfay currently also serves as President/CEO of the Sporting Arms & Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI) and Hunting and Shooting Sports Heritage Foundation (HSSHF). Successors for those positions will likely be named from current staff.
