| | Step Outside® Creates Participation Opportunities for Disabled Shooters The National Shooting Sports Foundation’s STEP OUTSIDE campaign will help create new opportunities for the physically disabled to participate in the shooting sports through a new Shooting Sports Program offered by the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA). Working with the PVA, STEP OUTSIDE events will focus on actively recruiting disabled persons and using recreational therapists to introduce the disabled to a broad spectrum of shooting activities designed to help those with physical handicaps better experience the fun and enjoyment of the shooting sports. The PVA is a leading veterans’ service organization chartered by Congress in 1946 to meet the special needs of disabled veterans on a variety of issues. Its Sports and Recreation Program promotes a range of activities for its members and others with physical handicaps, with a special emphasis on activities that enhance lifetime health and fitness. Its 35 chapters have been conducting comprehensive shooting sports activities for years. “The establishment of the PVA Shooting Sports Program positions PVA as a leader in recreational programming for individuals with disabilities, providing them with an additional opportunity to STEP OUTSIDE and enjoy the great outdoors,” said Lew Deal, PVA’s director of outdoor sports development. STEP OUTSIDE was established in 1998 to encourage outdoorsmen and women to introduce family members, friends and acquaintances to share the outdoor experience.
