AMA Invites NSSF to Dialogue

The recently elected president of the American Medical Association, Dr. Richard Corlin, has invited National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) President and CEO Bob Delfay to participate in an upcoming AMA meeting on gun-related violence. The invitation is in response to a letter Delfay sent to Dr. Corlin commenting on the latter’s acceptance speech at the AMA annual convention in June. At that time, Dr. Corlin devoted a good part of his speech to attacking firearms and the firearm industry, prompting Delfay to attempt to set the record, and, straight on the use of firearms and on the industry that produces them. “To the extent that, under your leadership, the AMA’s programs will focus on firearms violence and safety there may be an opportunity for our organizations to work together,” Delfay wrote. In accepting the invitation, Delfay informed Dr. Corlin, “I feel that the responsible manufacturers of sporting firearms do have a valuable and important story to tell regarding industry programs and policies designed to reduce irresponsible and illegal firearms use.” The meeting is November outside Chicago, Illinois.
