Six-year-old intact female German wire hair. She Hunts points and retrieves. Three years ago my son was in a traffic accident resulting in paralysis of his legs. Prior to that we did a lot of birdhunting including doves and Upland birds and Fox happily retrieves them all. She was trained on pigeons and chukar. Since his injury we do not do much upland bird hunting. We have released and Hunted chukar A couple of times since then and Dan still hunts doves every year. She finds and retrieves the doves but when Dan is on the four wheeler she drops them on the ground in front of the four wheeler. She will still retrieve to hand if you’re standing or if Dan is in his wheelchair but he does most of his hunting from his four wheeler.

I tried to correct this problem but was unsuccessful. Fox sleeps in the house not confined but on a mat and is quiet and well behaved. She’s outside in an enclosed pen during the day. She does dig but that’s really the only problem she causes. She swims and retrieves in water but I have never taken her waterfowl hunting.
I travel for work and trained her extensively when she was a pup. She travels well comfortable in the car comfortable in the hotel room. She has given us one litter and they were all competent hunters and healthy she had no problems with delivery or taking care of the puppies.

We have decided to train up a new dog from a puppy for hunting and as a service dog.

She’s definitely going to be a little rusty with the hunting. Has developed the habit of pointing at hair since we have her on birds less frequently but last year when we bought some chukar and release them several times she quickly sorted out hair from feather and was working quite well. She will need a tuneup.
