A change in the water and the dog and he gets soft water if he's used to hard water- you run the risk that the dog gets an intestinal inflammation. He gets upset. He gets loose stools. He gets dehydrated. And that will ruin your hunt. So bring bottled water with you for short trips. Keep him on the water he's used to drinking.
