Innotek’s Smart Dog 100A is an extremely economical answer to an entry-level obedience-training collar that is packed with advanced features often found in collars that cost hundreds of dollars more.

After testing the Smart Dog 100A, we loved the easy-to-use, water–resistant, ultra compact transmitter. The transmitter allows for virtual hands-free training by attaching it to a lanyard, which frees the trainer’s hands for commands, throwing dog training dummies, etc. The SD-100A features four levels of stimulation that are color coded for easy identification and use. The unit also incorporates the use of “good” or “bad” tones. The “good” tone can be used as a praise tone or can be used to train your dog for “silent recall”. The “bad” tone can be useful to correct a dog without applying electrical stimulation.

We found that the SD-100A was easy to use right out of the box. If one suggestion can be made, before you use this collar on your dog, please watch the Innotek instructional video that comes free with the collar. This video will show you how to effectively use all the collar’s features when training your dog.

All in all, this collar had good reviews as an obedience collar and we were pleased to see the integration of “good” and ‘bad” tones into a collar priced at this level. The unit’s effective range of 150 yards, combined with the fact that this collar is only water-resistant, would make field use questionable. However, Innotek has developed specific product lines to handle high demands of a sporting dog with their “Command Series” and “Retriever Series” collars.
