0:44 Hi, I'm George Hickox. I'm here at training grounds, North Dakota. And we're going to talk about saving money. Here in North Dakota, we have a lot of birds. We've got pheasants. We've got sharp tails. We've got huns. But not everybody has thousands of vacant acres with a big popular of wild birds. So you need to use some pen-raised birds for your training.

1:04 Pigeons are a great bird to use. A way to save money if you don't have a homing pen and you can't keep 50 pigeons is you take a piece of PVC pipe. I've got a cord coming from the PVC pipe and I have a remote launcher down below. The cord is tied to the pigeon's leg. So when I fire the launcher, the pigeon can come up and fly around but comes down and you can reuse that pigeon over and over again. So all we do is I'm just going to fire the launcher okay, [launcher fires] the bird comes up, it can fly around and your dog's going to see it fly around and you're doing stay at wing and shot drills or backing drills or you're doing barrel work and you can use that pigeon over and over again. If you're using a gun, and you shoot the gun, you're never going to miss and the bird always comes down.

1:50 Another great way to save money for your training, on your bird costs is to use a remote launcher  and once again, I have a cord tied to the remote launcher with a slip knot tied around the pigeon's leg. And when I launch the launcher, the pigeon comes up, flies around so the dog will see him, I can shoot and the bird's always going to come down. And I can reuse that bird over and over again.
