Fitting an E-Collar

By Justin Tackett

[Introduction]

0:25 You know without a doubt the modern e-collar is the most humane way to train a dog. But getting that collar on right, in the best place so your dog can perform in the field is of utmost importance.

What I'm going to do is show you how to put that collar on. Now, just like a human being, a labrador, any kind of retriever, bird dogs, all sporting dogs have a heavy base of muscle right on the base of their neck. Now, as you come up right behind their ears, there's a thin spot. By putting the collar right behind their ears through here, it's going to allow the dog to breathe better which is going to help him stay cooler, which is going to let them breathe more through their nose, help them find more birds for you.

1:02  Alright, right behind the ears there's a thin spot.  What I'm going to do is take two fingers. These two fingers will go right underneath or right beside that buckle. I'm going to pull until it's fairly tight and secured. Then I'm going to check it. I'm going to push it down a little bit. I don't want it to go down. I want it to stay high. The probes are going to be right where we need them, dog's going to breathe better. They're going to perform better. All you gotta do is go get them.
