My baby can now swim
5 out of 5
5 out of 5
Summary:Not only does this collar have 18 levels of continuous and momentary stimulation (in low, medium and high options), a bigger and brighter LED on the collar, an astonishing 1 mile range, an tone only feature, a waterproof transmitter and collar receiver, this collar also has insulated contact points which help make sure that the stimulation level that your dog feels in or out of the water is the same. This way, your dog doesn’t get confused. My dog loves to go for a swim and having this feature has totally helped me control him a lot. Thank you Tri-Tronics!
Pros:Levels of continuous and momentary, Range, Feature, Waterproof

Love the one-mile range

Summary:Why did I choose the Tri-Tronics Pro 500? Basically, I wanted something with a good operating range. The Pro 500 offered a good 1 mile of operating range. That’s good enough for us who love to go into the woods where the terrain and outgrowths are pretty unpredictable. You wouldn’t want to lose control of your dog while in the middle of a hunting session. A wide range will give you ample reassurance that your dog is within range. I was very particular with this since I own quite a big dog and I wouldn’t want to lose control of him at any cost. The Pro 500 did not disappoint. We have done a lot of hunting and roaming trips and I never encountered any problem with it. The only setback about this product is that the controller is quite on the bulky side.
Pros:Range, Best Collar

Just good enough

Summary:I’ve learned my lesson to read about the product first before buying it. I previously bought another brand of electronic collar and using it was like taking a pop quiz – it was confusing and complicated. So I read about the Pro 500 and it seemed like it was the best in the market nowadays. It did meet my minimum requirements. It was very easy to set up and very straightforward to operate. I had no difficulty using it even for the first time. The only issue I had with it is that the controller was just too bulky. I would have wanted a sleeker design and something that can be attached to a lanyard. This product doesn’t have that option so I had to buy a holster for it.
Cons:Big, Minimum requirements

Got a defective unit

Summary:The unit I got was defective. It was working fine for the first few minutes but then it just suddenly stopped working. I didn’t know what happened. We didn’t even got it wet although it was waterproof as stated on the product. I contacted customer service right away and was instructed to return the product for a replacement free of charge. I got the replacement unit almost 2 weeks after. The replacement unit is working now but it was such a hassle going through all that.
Pros:Defective, Stopped working

Don’t get it wet

Summary:Everything was working just fine. I was very happy with the performance of my Tri-Tronics Pro 500 especially that it has the momentary stimulation option wherein you can give your dog just a “nick” of the correction. I strongly believe that if avoidable, it is better not to shock your dog too much. Then one day, we went for a trip and I used the collar on my dog in case he tries to run away. We were eating lunch when my dog suddenly jumped into the lake. I didn’t mind at first thinking that the unit was waterproof. Or so I thought. After a few minutes in the water, I decided to call my dog’s attention by using the momentary stimulation. But my dog didn’t even flinch. Later, I discovered that the collar got busted when it got wet. I was able to get a replacement though. But I think they should make sure that their products perform as indicated on their product.
Cons:Busted, Not Waterproof
