(Harrisburg) - Pennsylvania has become the first state in the nation to pass legislation designed to encourage more young people to take up hunting in an effort to increase sportsmen’s numbers.

Bill To Control Ammo And Firearm Sales Clears NY Assembly

A New York bill that would impose unnecessary restrictions on firearm and ammunition sales has been approved by the Assembly.

Assembly Bill 9280 attacks gun owners and sportsmen by placing unnecessary burdens on businesses that sell firearms and ammunition to law abiding sportsmen. The bill, authored by Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, D-Scarsdale, requires retailers to remove firearms from display each night and place them in a vault.

Arizona Bill Will Strengthen Hunter Harassment Laws

A recently introduced Arizona bill will allow for more effective prosecution of anti-hunters who harass sportsmen and interfere with legal hunting activities.

Arizona HB 2130, introduced by Rep. Jerry Weiers, R-Phoenix, clarifies what constitutes hunter harassment. It details specific actions that would be considered illegal within hunting areas where people are lawfully attempting to take game.

Wisconsin Youth Hunting Bill Cears Senate Panel

Legislation permitting parents in Wisconsin to decide when their kids will begin to hunt is one step closer to becoming law.

On Jan. 11, the Senate Natural Resources and Transportation Committee approved AB 586 by a 4-1 margin. The vote followed a hearing on youth hunting, which included testimony from Rob Sexton, U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance (USSA) vice president for government affairs, as well as other hunting activists, hunter education volunteers and parents.

Indiana Bill Imposes Hunting Buffer Zones

An Indiana legislator recently introduced a bill that could restrict landowners from hunting on their own property.

Senate Bill 261, sponsored by Sen. Connie Sipes, D-New Albany, would prohibit the firing of a bullet, arrow, or other projectile within 200 yards of a residence without the landowner’s permission.
