NSSF Names Coburn Vice President, CFO

NSSF has appointed vice president of operations Nancy Coburn to a new position as vice president and chief financial officer. Coburn, who has overseen tremendous growth in organizational finances in recent years, began her career with NSSF in 1990.

Gander Mountain 4Q Profit Soars

Outdoor retailer Gander Mountain Co. on Wednesday reported fourth-quarter profit increased 26 percent over the previous year. At $22.2 million, or $1.45 per share, net income for the quarter topped Wall Street expectations. With the help of strong equipment and fieldwear sales during the hunting seasons and solid sales during the holidays, sales were up 18 percent to $280.8 million during the fourth quarter, the company said.

Smith & Wesson Sales Jump 24%

Smith & Wesson Holdings Corp. on Wednesday reported sales of $38.6 million in the third quarter, a 24 percent jump over the previous year. It was the highest quarterly revenue in the company's history. "This has been a good quarter for us," said Michael Golden, president and CEO.

ATF, DOJ, NSSF Team Up

In South Carolina last week, the state's U.S. Attorney, representatives from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and NSSF launched a program aimed at deterring illegal gun purchases.

NCAA Rifle Qualifiers Announced

The NCAA Men’s and Women’s Rifle Committee has announced the qualifiers in the individual and team events at the upcoming NCAA championships on Friday and Saturday in Colorado Springs. IDPA Holds Winter Championships

The International Defensive Pistol Association’s ninth annual Winter Championships were held Feb. 23-25 at Smith & Wesson Shooting Sports Center in Springfield, Mass. The event featured more than 200 competitors, including well-known handgun specialists Jerry Miculek, Todd Jarrett, Doug Koenig, Julie Goloski and Dave Sevigny. City Seeks Answers On Winchester Plant's Future

New Haven, Conn., Mayor John DeStefano Jr. met last week with officials from U.S. Repeating Arms Co.’s parent company, the Herstal Group, the New Haven Register reports. Details of the meeting weren’t revealed, but a spokesperson for the mayor said he would be urging the company through a letter to make sure the license to the Winchester brand name would go to any gun manufacturer taking over the facility.

CWD Update

The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department reported last week that test results show none of the 276 deer sampled from deer taken by hunters during Vermont’s 2005 deer hunting seasons was positive for Chronic Wasting Disease. In Kentucky, state wildlife officials and others are concerned that a bill under consideration by the General Assembly could result in the spread of CWD, reports the Lexington Herald-Leader.
