Pennsylvania Hunters Set New Safety Record

The year 2005 was the safest hunting season since records have been kept in Pennsylvania, and that takes in 90 years of statistics. The Pennsylvania Game Commission announced that 47 hunting-related shooting incidents, including three fatalities, were recorded, creating an incident rate of 4.92 per 100,000 participants.

Reporter Enjoys Experience At Newest Five Star Range

After hearing that Tripoli's Triggers in Williamsport, Pa., had received the National Association of Shooting Ranges highest honor, its Five Star rating, local reporter Connie Mertz accepted an invitation from owner Frank Tripoli to give the state-of-the-art facility a try. After her experience, Mertz wrote, "As I returned the .38 to its case, I looked up at Tripoli and grinned. 'I know why you wanted me to shoot. This sport is addicting.'"

Congressmen, Industry Meet & Shoot

Representatives from the hunting and shooting community, including the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s president, Doug Painter, senior vice president and general counsel, Lawrence G. Keane, and senior vice president, Chris Dolnack, met with key members of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus to hear about current and upcoming legislation impacting the outdoors.

NSSF Donation Supports College Programs

Offering its support for the nation's only community college-based shooting-complex management and game-preserve management programs, NSSF has donated $8,000 to Southeastern Illinois College. The foundation's donation will provide $6,000 in scholarships and $2,000 in program development and support. SIC's game preserve management and shooting complex management programs ready students for careers in the shooting and hunting preserve industry. In addition to extensive in-class training, the programs offer one-year internships at various facilities throughout the country.

Making It Up

In order to keep pushing New York City Mayor Bloomberg's campaign to bash firearms dealers and manufacturers, the Brady Campaign's Million Mom March Massachusetts chapter made the outrageous claim last week that "illegal gun trafficking is big business for gun manufacturers, distributors and dealers, with an estimated 20 percent of total sales coming from illegally sold handguns."
