ATF Reform Bill May Be Considered This Week

A Congressional subcommittee is likely this week to consider possible amendments to HR 5092 – the ATF Modernization and Reform Act. The bill would give additional enforcement options to ATF short of license revocation.

ATF Annual Report

ATF has released its 2005 annual report. The 60-page report highlights initiatives and statistics from the last year and includes a section on enforcing federal firearms laws, increasing the rate of compliance with firearms laws and regulations, and preventing firearms violence through community outreach. Newest Five-Star Range

Tripoli’s Triggers, an indoor range owned by Frank Tripoli, in Williamsport, Pa., is the thirteenth and latest shooting facility to earn the National Association of Shooting Range’s (NASR) five-star rating, the organization’s highest grade. To meet the criteria of a five-star facility, a range must demonstrate excellence in all aspects of management and operations. Ranges are rated on appearance, management, customer service, amenities, customer development and community relations. NASR is the shooting range division of NSSF.

Letter Regarding Child Safety Lock Act Of 2005

ATF has posted an open letter to firearms dealers on its Web site regarding the "Child Safety Lock Act of 2005," which became effective April 24. The law, which is Section 5 of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, requires licensed firearms retailers to provide a safety device to all handgun purchasers.

New York Judge At It Again

A federal judge in New York City ruled Thursday that ATF gun trace data may be used by the city in its case against gun manufacturers, the Associated Press reports. The decision is yet another by U.S. Judge Jack B. Weinstein that goes against measures passed by Congress that forbid the data from being used in civil suits.

Wisconsin Offers Novices Deer Hunting Workshops

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will be offering “Learn to Hunt Deer” workshops this fall at its Sandhill Outdoor Skills Center in Babcock, Wis. Programs have been structured for adults on Saturday, September 23, and for young people 12-15 years of age on several dates in August.
