'Gun Talk' Reaching 5 Million More Listeners

The only national radio talk show about guns may now be heard on the XM satellite radio system, increasing its potential audience by more than five million. "Tom Gresham's Gun Talk" is a live, three-hour broadcast about firearms—the technical, the topical and the political—hosted by award-winning communicator Tom Gresham. Now in its 12th year on the air, Gresham’s show is carried on radio stations in 50 markets, on the Sirius satellite system, and through live Web streaming and MP3 downloads at the Gun Talk Web site.

USA Shooting Coach A Finalist

His shooters have won eight World Cup medals, including three golds, but will U.S. Shooting Team coach David Johnson win USOC National Coach of the Year honors? Johnson is one of five finalists selected by a panel of former coaches and officials. He is responsible for the training and development of over 30 national and national development team athletes and was the U.S. head coach for all international competitions. Winners will be announced June 23 at the Night of Champions event.

Hunters And Fees In Pennsylvania

Cutting services, postponing needed purchases and leaving staff vacancies unfilled, the Pennsylvania Game Commission is now considering increasing hunting license fees by at least 50 percent.

Give Handgunning A Try

NSSF’s First Shots program is designed to give the public an opportunity to learn the rules and requirements of handgun ownership, and provide an introduction to safety and competitive shooting opportunities. Following successful events in Massachusetts, Idaho and Arizona, First Shots’ next stop is H&H Gun Range in Oklahoma City on June 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and June 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. Pre-registration is required at 405-947-3888. “It’s a great opportunity for the public to learn exactly what gun ownership and the shooting sports are all about,” said H&H owner Miles Hall.

Scholarships For Heritage Fund Members

NSSF’s Hunting and Shooting Sports Heritage Fund is offering $1,000 scholarships to 25 qualifying recipients. Applicants must be employees (or family members of employees) of a Heritage Fund member company who will be attending a higher education institution during the 2006-07 school year. An application and essay must be submitted by June 30. Scholarship recipients will be announced by July 31. For more information, contact Bettyjane Swann at NSSF.

Women Shooters

Media around the country continue to highlight female participation in shooting sports. The latest is the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, which last week featured a story about the growth—and proficiency—of women target shooters.

Publicity Hound Mayor At It Again

New York City’s grandstanding mayor, Michael Bloomberg, orchestrated another anti-gun publicity stunt last week, saying the makers of gun customization kits were responsible for making real guns look like toys and thus aiding criminals—nevermind that his city’s police department has not seized a single gun painted to look like a toy.
