NSSF Bullet Points ArticlesCourt Upholds State's Right to Regulate Non-ResidentsIn a significant decision by the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, North Dakota's right to regulate its hunting seasons and fees was upheld. The challenge came from the state of Minnesota after North Dakota established a week-early resident-only waterfowling season and increased its nonresident waterfowl license from $10 to $85, in response to the growing number of non-resident hunters affecting residents who were “being squeezed out of prime hunting lands,” reported the Grand Forks Herald.Romance Writers Learn About GunsThe Second Amendment Foundation and NSSF teamed up to provide a Firearms and Fiction Seminar for more than 100 romance novelists attending the Kiss of Death Chapter of the Romance Writers of America Conference in Atlanta.Women Who Hunt--the FilmCarol Wagner previews her new movie, "Dressed to Kill: Women Who Hunt," at the Dallas Video Festival this Sunday, August 13. Says Paula Silsby, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maine, "When you go to the extent of putting up a billboard blaming crime in Boston on another state, I think the rhetoric has gotten a little heated." The rhetoric should come as no surprise since the billboard was paid for by John Rosenthal and Stop Handgun Violence, the political force behind Massachusetts' strict gun control laws.Challenges for Home-Based FFL'sAccording to a story in the South Bend Tribune, the zoning commission is increasingly fielding requests from "gun hobbyists" for permits to operate a firearms business out of their homes, and neighbors are raising objections. Due to relatively new federal regulations, the local permits are now required before an individual can obtain a federal firearms license.New Youth Mentorship ProgramTo honor the memory of Finn Aagaard, highly regarded gun writer who died in 2000, his family has joined with Sisk Rifles and the Hacienda Ranch in Uvalde, Texas, to provide a trip of a lifetime to a high school senior who has either a hunting license or certification of successfully completing a hunter education course.American Shooters Finish StrongThe United States won three medals on the last day of competition at the World Shooting Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, ending the two-week-long competition on a very high note.Updated Industry ResearchNSSF members have a wealth of data at their fingertips at the newly updated Industry Research Web pages, including: the 2006 Industry Reference Guide, an all-encompassing industry resource; Range Consumption Reports, detailed information about range and target usage; Market Demographic Reports, available to all ranges and retailers wanting information about their market area; Research Publications, sources of participation, demographics and expenditures of shooting sport participants; Market Indicators, detailed point-of-sale reports; and Frequently Asked Questions, a valuable source of industry data.
