Sturm, Ruger Names New CEO

Sturm, Ruger & Co. announced Wednesday the appointment of Michael O. Fifer to serve as its chief executive officer, effective Sept. 25. Most recently, Fifer was president of the Engineered Products Division of Mueller Industries Inc.

House to Vote on Pro-Gun Bills

Two federal pro-gun bills will be voted on soon by the U.S. House of Representatives. HR 5092, the "Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) Modernization and Reform Act of 2006," and HR 5005, the "Firearms Correction and Improvement Act," both were passed out of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee.

Federal Ruling Puts Onus on Fish & Wildlife Service

A District of Columbia federal district court judge has ruled that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service must examine more fully the cumulative environmental impact of hunting on 37 National Wildlife Refuges before issuing regulations that open or expand hunting opportunities on those refuges.

U.S. Repeating Arms Assests to be Auctioned

Assets of U.S. Repeating Arms Co., primarily equipment for firearms manufacturing and related services, will be auctioned on Sept. 27 and 28 by Thomas Industries Worldwide Auction Services. The auction will take place both at 344 Winchester Avenue, New Haven, Conn., where storied Winchester-brand firearms had been manufactured, and on the Web.

Smith & Wesson Posts Record First Quarter

Smith & Wesson reported Thursday that profit increased 25 percent in the first quarter, compared to the same period a year ago. Net income increased to $3.4 million, or 8 cents per share, from $2.7 million, or 7 cents per share, last year.

Olympic Hopefulls Selected for Development Camp

NSSF has selected 19 promising young shooting talents and 10 coaches from its Scholastic Clay Target Program to attend the 2006 Junior Olympic Development Camp.

NSSF Recognizes Efforts of Volunteer

In just six years, Tennessee's Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) has grown to include more than 1,500 young trap shooters, the most of any state in the country. A lot of that success can be attributed to one woman's efforts. Betty Loveless of Murfreesboro, Tenn., has been awarded NSSF's annual Dave Kaiser Award.
