Credit Card Processing Company Rejects Firearms Industry and Refuses to Process Transactions

Citi Merchant Services and First Data Corp. are refusing to process any credit card transactions between federally licensed firearms retailers, distributors and manufacturers -- a move which will severely limit available inventory of firearms and ammunition to military, law enforcement and law-abiding Americans. John Hosford, Former CCRKBA Leader, Passes Away

John Hosford, former executive director of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, passed away in his sleep on Christmas Eve. A retired police officer, Hosford was active in the gun-rights movement for many years, attending every annual Gun Rights Policy Conference, even after his retirement.

NRA Seeking Owners of Seized Guns in New Orleans

When New Orleans police confiscated more than 1,000 firearms from law-abiding gun owners in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the National Rifle Association and the Second Amendment Foundation filed suit against Mayor Ray Nagin and Police Superintendent Warren Riley. The trial is set to begin Feb. 19, according to Mississippi's SunHerald, and NRA is trying to locate gun owners who had firearms seized during that period to help expedite the guns' rightful return and to possibly enlist them as witnesses. Humane Society May Merge Anti-Hunting Forces

The Humane Society of the United States, the voice of America's anti-hunting forces, may soon try to become more powerful by merging with at least three other animal rights organizations, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

Initiative Targets Tree-Stand Accidents

The National Bowhunters Education Foundation (NBEF) announced the launch of a new educational initiative targeting tree-stand hunting accidents. Dubbed "Project STAND" (Stop Tree Stand Accidents 'n Deaths), the program is designed to raise tree-stand safety awareness and significantly reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by tree-stand accidents. The NBEF is seeking support for Project STAND. Winchester Ammunition Supports Priority Youth Programs

The Youth Shooting Sports Alliance (YSSA) announced that Winchester Ammunition has provided all of the rimfire and shotshell ammunition requested in support of designated priority youth shooting sports programs. Winchester donated ammunition in support of shooting sports programs conducted by the Eugene Ashley High School Navy JROTC unit in Wilmington, N.C.; Narragansett Council, Boy Scouts of America (BSA), East Providence, R.I.; Blue Ridge Council, BSA, Greenville, S.C.; Tukabatchee Area Council, BSA, Montgomery, Ala.; and the Louisiana Royal Rangers, Alexandria, La.

German rifle and shotgun manufacturer Blaser announced that Brian H. Turk has been named president and CEO of Blaser USA, effective Feb. 1.

Colt Defense Gets Major Military Deal

Colt Defense has been awarded a $15.92 million firm-fixed-price contract for M16A3 and M16A4 rifles to support the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, the U.S. Department of Defense announced. Work will be performed at the company's West Hartford, Conn., plant and is expected to be completed by Dec. 13, 2010.

Remington to Pay $41.7 Million for Marlin

Remington Arms Co. said Friday in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that it plans to buy Marlin Firearms Co. for about $41.7 million, the Associated Press reported. Remington will make the purchase by buying the shares of Marlin.

Keynoter Huckabee Bags Pheasant While in Iowa

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee participated in a pheasant hunt on which he bagged a bird and proudly held up his game, reported the Boston Herald. "It's an opportunity to experience Iowa at its best," said Huckabee, according to a similar article in The Hartford Courant. Huckabee, who has hunted since he was 11, will be presenting the keynote address at the NSSF Shooting Sports Summit, a gathering of leaders in the shooting sports and related fields, in Colorado Springs in late June.
