SHOT Show Retail Services Pavilion For Sale

The Retail Services Pavilion booth from the SHOT Show is up for sale. The booth, which is warehoused in Las Vegas and is palletized, is available for $5,000 plus shipping (cost of shipping is estimated at $6,000). The booth was used at three shows. Details: The entrance into the booth runs the length of the 70-foot space. Construction materials include natural rough cedar with metal roofing, laminated wild cherry wood finishes and three-dimensional faux river rock in the columns. Brownells has launched Gunsmiths.com, designed to enrich and promote the trade. Gunsmiths can register with the site's gunsmith locator, find a job or an employee with free postings for resumes and job openings and expand their knowledge with many other features.

ATK Wins 43.8 Million Army Ammo Contract

The Department of Defense last week announced a contract boost of $43.8 million to Alliant Techsystems (NYSE:ATK) to supply ammunition to the Army.

Cabels Profit Up In Fourth Quarter

Outdoor retailer Cabela's (NYSE:CAB) on Thursday reported a 5 percent increase in fourth-quarter earnings. Net income for the quarter was $56.2 million, or 84 cents per share, compared with $53.4 million, or 80 cents per share, in the same period the previous year. For the 2007 fiscal year, sales increased 13.9 percent to $2.35 billion, compared to $2.06 billion in fiscal 2006.

Ruger Announces Stutler Retirement

Sturm, Ruger & Co. (NYSE:RGR) announced that Robert R. Stutler has retired as vice president of Prescott, Ariz., operations as of Feb. 15, and that Mark T. Lang has been hired as group vice president effective Feb. 18. Lang will initially be responsible for management of the Prescott firearms division. Stutler was employed with the company since 1987, becoming general manager of Prescott operations in 1990, and vice president of Prescott operations in 2006. Over his 20-year career, Stutler made significant contributions to the success of the Prescott division and the design of some of the company's most popular firearms.

Background Checks Up 5.3 Percent in January

Data released by the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) shows 942,556 checks were reported in January, a 5.3 percent increase from the 894,608 reported in January 2007. Adjusted state figures show background checks up by 3.4 percent year-over-year. In 2007, NICS reported a total of 11,177,335 background checks, an increase of 4.1 percent compared to 2006. The increase in background checks coincides with an up-tick in excise taxes reported by firearms and ammunition manufacturers, another key economic indicator for the firearms industry.

Cabelas Renews Commintment to National Hunting and Fishing Day

A long-time supporter of the sporting heritage, Cabela's has again signed on to sponsor National Hunting and Fishing Day, set for Sept. 27. Cabela's sponsorship supports Wonders of Wildlife museum, the official home and national organizer of National Hunting and Fishing Day. Wonders of Wildlife produces event-planning guides, posters, banners, PSAs, newspaper ads and other communications to help build public appreciation of hunters and anglers. Cabela's joins a growing list of sponsors, including NSSF, Bass Pro Shops, The Sportsman Channel, National Wild Turkey Federation and Realtree.

Industry Commended For Shows 30th Anniversary

NSSF has received a certificate of commendation from U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and formal congressional recognition from U.S. Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-Nev.) for the 30th anniversary of the SHOT Show. Further demonstrating the show's political importance were visits from U.S. Rep. Jon Porter (R-Nev.), whose district covers suburban Las Vegas, and Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons. "This shows the importance of the SHOT Show, and, in this election year, the importance politicians continue to attach to the sportsmen and gun-owner vote -- a demographic which remains one of the most important and influential voting blocs in American politics today," said NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane.
