The story spotlights the sport and the growing number of young people taking part thanks to NSSF's Scholastic Clay Target Program. The entire issue can be read online.

Each card contains a member company's name, primary contact, member ID number, expiration date and member category. For more information, please contact bswann@nssf.org.

Bullet Serialization Bill Pulled In Kentucky

A Kentucky bill to require bullet serialization was pulled by its sponsors less than 48 hours after it was introduced due to the voluminous phone calls received in opposition. "It goes to show that the unified voice of the firearms industry's base, vigilant sportsmen and gun owners has a tremendous impact," said NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane. "But we should be under no illusion here. Bullet serialization remains a threat in states across the country and can be easily re-introduced at a later date in Kentucky." Track legislation and learn more about bullet serialization in NSSF's Legislative Action Center.

A New Number 2

Fore! Hunting- and shooting-related equipment has out-driven golf in sales, according to data released by the National Sporting Goods Association. New statistics show that hunting gear and firearm sales topped $3.7 billion in 2006, up 4.1 percent from the previous year. Only exercise equipment performed better, with sales of $5.22 billion, according to NSGA's most recent "Sporting Goods Market" report. Golf equipment, which claimed the No. 2 spot the previous year, fell into the third spot with $3.66 billion in sales. NSGA's sales projection for 2007 shows golf equipment and hunting and shooting equipment again running neck-and-neck to claim the No. 2 spot, with exercise equipment remaining at No. 1. Included in the hunting- and shooting-related equipment category are firearms ($2.18 billion in 2006 sales), airguns ($224.1 million), ammunition ($977.1 million), knives ($51.8 million), paintball guns/packages ($220.9 million) and reloading equipment ($52.0 million).

Electronic License Point Of Sale Delayed Again in Pennsylvania

Expressing extreme disappointment, the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s executive director announced that this year’s hunting licenses will not be sold through an electronic license-sale system, but, instead, beginning in mid-June the agency will begin selling paper licenses for the 2008-2009 seasons. This will continue the process used in 2007-2008, said Executive Director Carl G. Roe, who does expect the new “point-of-sale” procedure to start for the 2009-2010 year, by which time the contractor for this project should have the system fully operational.
