Youth Shooting In The News

Who would have thought, with so much media bias and sensationalism in the years since Columbine, that we'd see the above top headline on an Associated Press story? AP has released a long-overdue, accurate, upbeat, true-to-the-spirit, national feature story about the rising number of youths competing in shooting sports. NSSF’s Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP), which now has topped 7,000 young participants nationwide, is prominent in the piece. SCTP coaches laud participation by "top academic students down to kids who struggle academically" and from "top athletes down to those with no athletic ability." At one Ohio high school, in only the second year of varsity shooting, participation already tops 78 students, making it the largest club of any type on campus. The AP story has been picked up by newspapers of all sizes, from the Bloomington (Ill.) Pantagraph to the Los Angeles Daily News.
