Youth, Apprentice Hunting Bills Head To Michigan Senate

Two bills designed to increase hunter participation in Michigan are headed to the state Senate. HB 5192 would lower age requirements for young hunters, while SB 1105 would establish an apprentice hunting license. Both bills are part of the Families Afield campaign of NSSF, the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance and National Wild Turkey Federation. The state Senate Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs Committee last week passed both bills 4-1. HB 5192 was passed by the House in March with an 86-17 vote. Michigan currently has some of the nation's most restrictive hunting age requirements.
