Winchester Ammo Sales Up, Overall Olin Earnings Down

Winchester Ammunition sales rose 8 percent in the first quarter, compared to the same period last year. Olin Corp., owner of Winchester, announced ammunition division sales were $90 million, compared with $83.3 million in the first quarter of 2005. "The favorable impact of increased selling prices and higher volumes was offset by the continued increase in commodity and other material costs and higher manufacturing costs," the company said. Overall earnings at Olin, which also operates chemical and metal products divisions, were down 9.4 percent in the quarter. The company is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol OLN.
