Volunteers Honored For 'Families Afield' Effort

Recognizing dedication and leadership in furthering the sport of hunting, the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance (USSA) and NSSF on Saturday presented a special USSA Patriot Award to the Pennsylvania Mentored Youth Hunting Committee. The award was given at the spring conference of the Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association, with outdoor writer Jon Pries of Trout Run, Pa., accepting. Pries and other committee volunteers spearheaded local support for a new law creating new hunting opportunities for youths. Late in 2005, Pennsylvania became the first state to pass a "Families Afield" law, an effort sponsored nationally by NSSF, National Wild Turkey Federation and USSA.
