Vermont Bill Would Unravel "Crazy Quilt" Of Local Firearm Laws

Legislation being debated in Vermont would put an end to the mixed bag of local firearm regulations that restrict hunting practices on a town by town basis.

House Bill 447, introduced by Rep. Joseph Krawczyk, R-Bennington, requires that municipal firearm restrictions not exceed state firearm regulations. According to the bill, local regulations shall not impede hunting, fishing, and trapping by altering the time, place or manner of activity that is otherwise permitted by the state. It would put an end to the patchwork of local firearm regulations that make it difficult for sportsmen to know if they are in compliance with the law.

The bill is being considered in the House Fish, Wildlife and Water Resources Committee.

Take Action! Vermont sportsmen should contact their state representatives to support HB 447. Explain that a unified set of regulations will help sportsmen follow these laws.
