The “Shootin’ Utes” of the University of Utah won their first national championship when they fired 2103 out of 2400 during the 2006 U.S. National Collegiate Pistol Championships held at Ft. Benning, Ga., in mid-March. Finishing in second and third were the U.S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Military Academy. The Military Academy did finish as the overall national champion, winning the Free and Air Pistol events.
