USSA Honors National Conservation Leaders

Two key conservation leaders were awarded for their commitment to America’s outdoor heritage during a reception last week hosted by the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance (USSA), Cabela’s and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) at the Las Vegas Hilton.

On Feb. 8, Doug Painter, President of the NSSF, and Rob Keck, CEO of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF), were honored for their partnership with the USSA in the defense of hunting, fishing, and trapping nationwide. The two organizations are partners with the USSA in the Families Afield initiative – state by state legislative efforts to boost hunter recruitment numbers by reducing barriers to new hunters entering the field. With their help, Families Afield legislation has been passed in Pennsylvania and the governor of Ohio is expected to sign similar legislation this week.

“Doug Painter and Rob Keck are two of the strongest allies of the American sportsman,” said Bud Pidgeon, President and CEO of the USSA. “Their leadership and tireless effort in wildlife conservation and sportsmen’s advocacy are crucial to the future of outdoor sports. Every hunter, fisherman and trapper owes them a ‘thank you’ for their work.”

The NSSF and NWTF are also major supporters of USSA’s Trailblazer Adventure program which introduced shooting, hunting and fishing to 117,000 youth and their families at 60 events in 2005. In 2006, 72 Trailblazer events are scheduled with an expected 130,000 participants.
