Shooting Industry Academy Of Excellence Presents 2006 Awards

Thirteen companies and one individual received the Shooting Industry Academy of Excellence Awards during a special reception attended by 300 firearm industry executives and guests May 19 in Milwaukee, Wis. The academy also presented its first Founder’s Award, to Wayne LaPierre, for a lifetime of service to the industry. Russ Thurman, Shooting Industry magazine’s editor, called LaPierre a “warrior’s warrior.” “His tireless efforts are impressive and his passion unwavering,” Thurman said in announcing the award. “Year after year, cause after cause, crisis after crisis, he is there—always on the front line, always in the fight.” The academy’s individual honor, the Shooting Industry Award, was presented to Frank Brownell of Brownells. Smith & Wesson received the Manufacturer of the Year Award. The academy is sponsored by FMG publications, and 500 industry executives, gun dealers and outdoor writers select the honorees.
