Shame On Them

The Washington Post, in the same week its staff re-lived the glory days of investigative reporting with revelation of the long-hidden identity of Watergate's "Deep Throat" informant, demonstrated that its editorial writers can't or won't use the Internet to look up the text of a bill before Congress. NSSF has written them and the staff at the Winston-Salem Journal to quote Senator Larry Craig (R-ID) regarding misimpressions the papers carry about his bill in the Senate. "To make sure your readers don't just hear the Brady Center's arguments about my bill, let me explain what the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, S.397, really does. Contrary to what your editorial ... claims, S.397 does not shield firearms manufacturers or dealers who break the law or are negligent. If a manufacturer or dealer sells firearms to a criminal or 'loses' firearms, they can be prosecuted under my bill, as they should be. What my bill does is protect law-abiding manufacturers or dealers from lawsuits that are not aimed at justice, but at bankrupting an industry and driving it out of business. Faulty products are not shielded by my bill."
