SHOT Show 2007

Breaking News From The Trade Show That Supports Everything You Stand For
January 30, 2007 Vol. 3 Edition 1

SHOT Show 2007
Orange County Convention Center
Orlando, Florida
January 11-14
NUMBERS TELL A STORY
Statistics attest to the show's popularity

When you analyze a trade show, there are some things to which you can't attach a statistic---like the incredible, positive spirit of the industry present. Buyers were there to shop and place orders, say exhibitors, and exhibitors enjoyed not just crowds in their booths, but also a continual flow of humanity through the aisles of the show floor. Feverish optimism about 2007 abounded.

Other facets of the show can be measured in numbers, however, and in many cases those numbers are not only impressive, but also, in fact, record breaking!

  • A record 656,100 square feet of exhibit space, 40,000 more than last year

  • A record total attendance of 42,216---made up of 20,390 buyers, 1,342 members of the press, 19,990 exhibiting personnel and 494 guests.<.li>

    GOING ONCE, GOING TWICE, SOLD!

Like the show itself, the SHOT Show auction ended with big numbers

The 2007 SHOT Show Auction, which over the years has raised more than $500,000 for causes benefiting the future of hunting in America, made a considerable contribution toward that total with the sale of five unique sidearms donated by Smith & Wesson and a one-of-a-kind gentleman's folding knife provided by custom knife maker Ross Tyser.

The auctioned items were displayed for bidding on GunBroker.com and at the SHOT Show, and the action concluded on Jan. 14, the last day of the show. When the torrid bidding in the closing minutes ended, Wonders of Wildlife, the Springfield, Mo.-based National Fish & Wildlife Museum, and home of National Hunting and Fishing Day, was the beneficiary of the $42,319 raised in the auction.

The handguns featured special engraving donated by Baron Technology, custom grips from Altamont Co. and leather cases from Brooks & Thomas.

"This year's auction was another great success, thanks to the generosity and remarkable craftsmanship of our donors," said Dave Miles, NSSF director of promotions and advertising.

    IMAGES OF THE SHOT SHOW

Web site offers view of special moments in Orlando

If a picture is worth 1,000 words, then the slide show at shotshow.org speaks volumes of the activity at the 2007 SHOT Show.

In addition, a gallery of 24 SHOT Show photos is on display to all visitors to the Web page. The images are also available in high-resolution format to the press under prescribed conditions, and to others who attain permission where necessary.

    TAKE THE POST-SHOW SURVEY

Exhibitors and attendees are urged to participate at www.shotshow.org

The National Shooting Sports Foundation, owner and sponsor of the SHOT Show, and Reed Exhibitions, the show's producer and manager, share a goal: To make the next SHOT Show even better than the last. That's why it is important for exhibitors and attendees of this year's show to participate in the post-show survey that soon will be posted at www.shotshow.org.

"We not only want you to reaffirm what we are doing right," said Doug Painter, NSSF president, "but we also want your views on how we can improve facets of the SHOT Show. The survey takes only minutes, and your responses are of great value."

Check the SHOT Show Web site; the surveys should be going online in the next week or two.

STATE OF THE INDUSTRY VIDEO ONLINE

NSSF presentation available at the click of a mouse

A highlight of the SHOT Show each year is the NSSF State of the Industry Gala held at the end of the first day of the show---and a highlight of the gala is the presentation by NSSF president Doug Painter live on stage and supported by an outstanding video. This year's video depicted the many ways NSSF is providing the how-to and where-to for new shooters and hunters---attracting more people into the sport, while promoting safety and providing access.

If you were at the gala, you heard the message while seeing the video. If you weren't, you can view the video now.

    SHOT BUSINESS AWARDS

Prestigious honors bestowed upon industry leaders

The SHOT Show is where the industry gathers to, among other things, formally recognize the achievements of business and grassroots leaders. Among the most prized of those honors bestowed at the show are the SHOT Business Awards.

At the Times4 Outdoors breakfast, held to kick off the 2007 show, Slaton White, editor of SHOT Business, presented awards to the following:

  • Ron Coburn, CEO, Savage Arms---Man of the Year

  • White Flyer Targets---Company of the Year

  • Ellett Brothers---Distributor of the Year

  • Shoot Straight---Retailer of the Year

  • Steven Glazener, Simpson Sales---Sales
  • Organization/Manufacturer's Representative of the Year

  • Tripoli's Triggers---Range of the Year

"The SHOT Business Awards not only recognize leadership in our industry but the personal contributions made to the community," White said. "The winners are tireless advocates for all that is best in the shooting sports, and they are known as citizens who selflessly and repeatedly give back to their communities."

    BACK TO VEGAS IN '08

Super Bowl weekend promises excitement---and crowds

Where would you like to be when the biggest sporting event of the year takes place, the game on which more people bet than probably any other contest all year? Next year, SHOT Show participants will have a chance to soak up the excitement of Super Bowl Sunday in Las Vegas when the show returns to the desert Mecca, from Saturday, Feb. 2, through Tuesday, Feb. 5.

Everything about the show next year promises a multitude of people. Record crowds at the Las Vegas Convention Center are anticipated, and with tourists pouring in from all over the world to be in Vegas for the Super Bowl, it is not too soon to make your plans.
