| Publicity Hound Mayor At It Again
New York City’s grandstanding mayor, Michael Bloomberg, orchestrated another anti-gun publicity stunt last week, saying the makers of gun customization kits were responsible for making real guns look like toys and thus aiding criminals—nevermind that his city’s police department has not seized a single gun painted to look like a toy. The owner of one of the companies denigrated by the mayor, Steve Lauer, of Lauer Custom Weaponry in Wisconsin, says that Dura Coat is a paint product that prevents metal corrosion and is often used by law enforcement and armed services to protect firearms. The reason it comes in bright colors, like yellow, is for safety reasons, he said in a news story. A silver lining is that Lauer’s sales of Dura Coat doubled after Bloomberg’s press conference. | |
