Protection of Lawful Commerce

Legislation is being drafted that the new Congress must enact to prevent abuse of the nation's justice system when unwarranted lawsuits are filed against law-abiding people and companies in the firearms industry. The tactic puts an enormous financial burden on innocent people who have to defend their good names against willful attempts to unjustly blame them for things over which they have no control, the things criminals do. In his State of the Union address, President George Bush encouraged Americans to fight against such "junk lawsuits" that impair the creation of jobs. The firearms industry is working with the National Rifle Association to press our fight to protect lawful and responsible industry members from this calculated effort to destroy our industry and the jobs of tens of thousands it employs. These businesses not only provide materials our men and women in uniform need to win the war against terrorism, but also the goods that 40 million Americans use to enjoy recreational shooting and hunting with firearms.
