Perry Bass, Texas Outdoorsmen, Dies At 91

The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance mourns the loss of respected Texas businessman Perry R. Bass. Mr. Bass was a longtime USSA contributor whose generosity helped defeat anti-hunting attacks nationwide.

Perry Bass, who set up Bass Brothers Enterprises in 1960 to manage his family’s vast oil and ranching interests, passed away June 1 at his home in Westover Hills, Texas. He was 91.

A charitable entrepreneur, Bass contributed to causes ranging from Little League teams to presidential campaigns. He helped rebuild a deteriorating downtown Fort Worth into an acclaimed urban center, donating millions to museums and music halls.

Bass was also a passionate conservationist and outdoorsman. The former chairman of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission, he was described as one of the “most conscientious” conservationists in the state. His gifts to the USSA demonstrated his commitment to protecting America’s hunting heritage.

Perry Bass is survived by his wife, Nancy Lee, and four sons, Sid, Lee, Edward and Robert.

“Our respects go out to Mr. Bass’s family during this time of mourning,” said U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance President Bud Pidgeon. “Perry was a wonderful man and he will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.”
