Pennsylvania Bill To Beef Up Hunter Harassment Law Goes To Governor

A Pennsylvania bill that would increase penalties for animal extremists convicted of harassing sportsmen in the field has passed the state Senate and is on the governor’s desk.

Gov. Ed Rendell must decide whether to sign House Bill 213, which would strengthen the state’s hunter harassment law by making the intimidation, coercion, or obstruction of an individual lawfully participating in a hunting activity an act of eco-terrorism. As a result, the penalties for such actions could be more severe.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Robert Godshall, R-Hatfield, passed the Senate on March 20 by a vote of 38 to 10.

Take Action! Pennsylvania sportsmen should contact Gov. Ed Rendell to ask that he sign HB 213 before the April 15 deadline. To contact the governor, call (717) 787-2500 or use the Legislative Action Center at www.ussportsmen.org.
