PETA to College: Stop Using Animal Mascot

Arguing that "Tigers belong in jungles, not on gridirons," a PETA Assistant Director called on the University of Memphis to use stop using animal mascots after learning the University’s tiger mascot had just died.

On the heels of the death of TOM II, Memphis’ longtime tiger mascot, PETA sent a letter to the president of the University of Memphis calling on him to refrain from replacing the tiger. The Assistant Director further stated that it is “cruel and inhumane” to not allow a tiger to live in its natural habitat. Instead, PETA argued that the university should only use human performers.
