Obama Taps Holder for Attorney General

In a move that has already raised red flags among many groups promoting second amendment rights, President-elect Obama has tapped Eric Holder to serve as U.S. Attorney General. Holder, a former lieutenant to former President Clinton’s attorney general, Janet Reno, has a history of taking positions against second amendment rights.

Most recently, Holder filed a legal brief in the recent Washington D.C. case concerning the city’s handgun ban. He argued that the Second Amendment does not protect an individual’s right to bear arms.

Holder also has a history of supporting federal licensing of handguns and legislation giving the federal government the power to shut down gun shows.

He also went on record shortly after 9/11 in a Washington Post editorial, stating that new legislation should give “the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms a record of every firearm sale.”
