New York Hunters Provide 300,000-Plus Meals

Even with the state’s deer harvest down by 20 percent in 2005, hunters, farmers, organizations, sportsmen’s clubs, processors, food banks, resource conservation and development councils, the Farm Bureau and others, under the auspices of the Venison Donation Coalition, processed and distributed enough deer meat for 300,000 meals for needy families. The 76,695 pounds of venison distributed in 2005 added to the seven-year contribution of 206 tons, or 1.6 million meals. For more information, visit the coalition’s Web site.
