| New Orleans To Return Confiscated Firearms
The City of New Orleans has admitted to confiscating guns from private citizens in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, creating a stockpile of more than 1,000 firearms. A hearing on a motion filed in federal court by the National Rifle Association and the Second Amendment Foundation that would have held the city in contempt was continued for two weeks, allowing the city to establish a process by which the lawful owners can recover their guns. Owners may contact the Property and Evidence division of the New Orleans Police Department by phone at 504-658-5503, by mail at New Orleans Police Department, Property and Evidence, 400 N. Jefferson Davis Pkwy., New Orleans, LA 70119, or by going in person to that address. Providing the serial number of confiscated firearms will expedite their return. | |
