New Management Policies for Refugees

Later this month three new policies will begin to serve as guidelines for the management of the National Wildlife Refuges, reports the Wildlife Management Institute. These guidelines, developed over the past six years by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and state fish and wildlife agencies, will help the service to fulfill its mission of administering “a national network of lands and waters for the conservation, management, and where appropriate, restoration of the fish, wildlife, and plant resources and their habitats…” Compatible wildlife-dependent recreational uses, such as hunting, are named as the priority general public uses of the refuge system.
