New Jersey Supreme Court Blocks Bear Hunt

For the second time in three years, the New Jersey Supreme Court has voted to block a bear hunt. The court refused to overturn or stay the state environmental commissioner Lisa Jackson's decision. "Bears are basically peaceful animals," Jackson said, and if garbage were controlled the number of incidents between bruins and humans would decline, reports the Newton, N.J., Herald. When asked about neighboring Pennsylvania and New York, which successfully hold annual bear hunts, Jackson said, "They manage their wildlife differently. Thank God, we're different."
