New Jersey Puts Final Blow to Possible Bear Hunt

The scheduled black bear hunt supported by the state's wildlife managers, sportsmen and the state's official Black Bear Management Policy has been cancelled by New Jersey's environmental commissioner. Apparently rubber-stamping the wishes of Gov. Jon Corzine, who opposed the hunt, Jackson wrote that once non-lethal methods are thoroughly tried their effectiveness could be "analyzed prior to conducting another bear hunt," reports The Record. "This was a political decision, and not one based on science," said a Safari Club International attorney."
