New Jersey Audubon Endorses Deer Hunting

The Star-Ledger reports that for the first-time in its 108-year history, the New Jersey Audubon Society is supporting hunting as a management tool to reduce the state's white-tailed deer population. In a report that was scheduled for release today, the state chapter says deer are eating away at the natural landscape, becoming an ecological "stressor" for birds and other wildlife. The group is even considering opening some of its preserves to hunting.
