New Hampshire Makes Progress

With the help of NSSF's Hunting Heritage Partnership grant program, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department increased its number of graduates in hunter education courses by 7.4 percent in 2005. New Hampshire used its grant to implement a coordinated print, radio, outdoor and television advertising campaign targeting prospective hunters. The campaign utilized NSSF’s Original Outdoor Challenge that is designed to target the next generation of hunters by offering a glimpse of the inherent challenge and excitement of hunting. The effort was coupled with a direct mail campaign and a revised online presence that made it easier for future hunters to get involved. The increased demand for hunter education inspired the agency to host a last-minute class deemed, “The Procrastinators Class,” that received rave reviews from attendees and generated additional excitement for hunting in the local media. The Hunting Heritage Partnership program is aimed at helping states boost hunter participation through hunter recruitment, retention and access efforts.
