NSSF Range A Big Hit

Thousands of Boy Scouts had an opportunity to test their marksmanship skills and to meet an Olympic gold medal winner at the Boy Scout Jamboree in Virginia last week. NSSF, in partnership with Boy's Life magazine, funneled more than 6,000 Scouts through an air rifle range, giving each youngster a chance to earn a Junior USA Shooting Team patch with a chevron commemorating the 2005 Jamboree. "For many of these Scouts it was their first experience target shooting and for all Scouts who participated it was an exciting experience that will lead to their continued involvement in our sports," said Cyndi Dalena, NSSF director of shooting sports development. The Scouts were thrilled to visit with Kim Rhode, the two-time Olympic trapshooting gold medalist, who reminded them at an autograph-signing session that "dreams do come true" if they are determined to succeed, whether in target shooting or any other endeavor. The popular air rifle range was made possible thanks to the assistance of many volunteer NRA- certified instructors and NSSF staff.
