NSSF Donation Ensures Future Of Hunting & Shooting Heritage

(Columbus) - The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms, hunting and recreational shooting industry, has generously donated $100,000 to the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance (USSA) Trailblazer Adventure Program. Trailblazer introduces youth and families to outdoor activities such as shooting, fishing and hunting.

“The National Shooting Sports Foundation has long been recognized as a leader in the recruitment of the next generation of sportsmen,” said Bud Pidgeon, USSA president and CEO. “We are proud to have the NSSF’s continued support of the Trailblazer Adventure Program to help introduce urban and suburban youngsters and their families to our hunting and shooting traditions.”

Chris Dolnack, NSSF senior vice president, presented the contribution check to Pidgeon and USSA Board Chairman Richard Cabela on March 14 at the 2006 USSA Board of Directors and U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation Board of Trustees Spring Meeting in Ft. Worth, Texas.

“The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance Trailblazer Adventure Program provides an introduction for thousands of youngsters and their families who otherwise might not have had the opportunity to learn about hunting and shooting and the sportsman’s role in conversation,” said Dolnack.

The NSSF is a longtime supporter of the USSA’s Trailblazer Adventure Program. Other partners include the Boy Scouts of America and the U.S. Army. Participants enjoy hands-on activities such as fishing, archery and firearm safety instruction. The program, which has reached nearly a quarter of a million participants since its inception in 2001, is endorsed by NSSF’s STEP OUTSIDE Program.

The $100,000 check brings NSSF’s total contributions to the USSA to fight for hunting and shooting’s future to more than $350,000.

The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance protects the rights of hunters, anglers and trappers in the courts, legislatures, at the ballot, in Congress and through public education programs.
