N.J. Bear Protestors Found Guilty

Six anti-hunting activists were found guilty in Vernon, N.J., Municipal Court of crossing a protest boundary during New Jersey’s bear hunt last December, reports The Star-Ledger. The protestors were convicted of obstructing the administration of law for the infraction at Wawayanda State Park in Vernon on Dec. 10, the final day of the hunt. Each of the defendants was fined $475 on the disorderly persons charge. “They had a clearly designated area to demonstrate,” said presiding Vernon municipal judge C. William Bowkey. “They were told they had to remain in that area – and they didn’t. They were given an opportunity to go back. They didn’t. I find beyond a reasonable doubt they interfered.”
