Motown Media Reports on Youth Hunting

The Detroit News and WNEM TV 5 recently filed reports on the popularity of the "Families Afield" legislation that has resulted in a lowering of minimum ages for qualified small-game (age 10) and big-game (12) hunting in Michigan. Families Afield, the program spearheaded by NSSF, the National Wild Turkey Federation and U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance, with support from the National Assembly of Sportsmen's Caucuses, has successfully helped eliminate unnecessary age barriers preventing parents from hunting with their children in 11 states. The TV report cites information prepared by NSSF that demonstrates hunting is safer than football, ice hockey and basketball, and both articles stress the value parents and children place on the time afield they spend together.
