Michigan House Passes Youth Hunting Bills

Young hunters in Michigan are closer to enjoying America's greatest outdoor tradition. The House agreed to Senate changes to HB 5192 that would lower the state's big-game minimum hunting age from 14 to 12. The bill now heads to Gov. Jennifer Granholm to sign. The House also overwhelmingly passed SB 1105 with a 103-2 vote. The bill, which would create an apprentice hunting license allowing youths to hunt under adult supervision before completing hunter education coursework, now returns to the Senate for approval. The U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance, National Wild Turkey Federation and NSSF support the measures as part of the national Families Afield initiative.
