Measure Likely To Be Thrown Out

Last Tuesday, San Francisco voters approved an ordinance (Proposition H) that would ban the sale and manufacture of all firearms and ammunition in the city and county of San Francisco as well as the possession of handguns within city and county limits. The following day, the California Association of Firearms Retailers—which is affiliated with NSSF's retail division, the National Association of Firearms Retailers—joined the National Rifle Association in filing a lawsuit challenging the measure.
A number of supporters of Proposition H, including Mayor Gavin Newsom, have already acknowledged that it will likely be thrown out in court. "It clearly will be thrown out. ... It's really a public opinion poll at the end of the day,'' Newsom said before the vote. According to the lawsuit, Proposition H clearly violates state laws and also violates the state and federal guarantees of equal protection.
